A Tinto Year in Review 2023
As we step into the promising landscape of 2024, all of us at Tinto Architecture would like to reflect on the opportunities and growth we experienced in 2023.
Last year saw substantial progress for both our company and clients across a wide spectrum of projects. In anticipation of upcoming ventures, we are taking a moment to highlight our key achievements from 2023.
January: Oxford University Press campus
TINTO were appointed to undertake a feasibility study of the OUP campus and provide options for a resilient post-pandemic working environment.
Working with the team we appraised all areas of the facility, reporting on recommendations that could be implemented in stages or as a larger redevelopment.
February: The V&A Dundee
The team worked on plans to provide a central staff facility at the V&A Museum in Dundee. Encouraging relaxation, collaboration and improved amenities, the new space allows a crossover of both the front and back of house teams.
March - New city centre venue in Aberdeen
The development of 419 Union Street, a unit which has been empty for 17 years, started in March - kicking off the exciting process of bringing it to life for the first time since 2007.
The venue will be a mixed development, bringing exciting new entertainment options to the city. Boasting various bars and restaurants catering for all demographics, the venue will have an innovative golf activity at its core.
April - Residential development in Kingston-upon-Thames
Planning work began on the impressive redevelopment of a brownfield site in central Kingston-upon-Thames, London, providing a mix of 1,2 and 3 bedroom apartments for the open market.
May: Merger with Deeside Architects Studio
We took a big step in May, merging with Deeside Architects Studio, setting the foundations for the future growth of TINTO.
As a result of the merger, Cat Tanner was appointed Design Director, and Steve Martin Technical Director. Leyton Still and Lizzi Nutt were subsequently appointed as Associates positioning our team well for future success.
June: Proposals for existing John Lewis building in Aberdeen
After the Bon Accord Shopping Centre sold, we were tasked with undertaking a feasibility study into the various redevelopment options to present to the new owners who were in the process of acquiring the John Lewis building.
Although there were impressive options that unfortunately may never be seen, it was a great opportunity for the team.
July: An exclusive residential development in Bieldside
In July, we were approaching completion of this unique extension to a family/garden room in Bieldside, with landscaping and connection to the main house.
We still enjoy taking on a limited number of large private jobs every year.
August: A review of projects on-site in the West-end of Aberdeen
We were busy on-site with various private residential jobs in the West-end of Aberdeen. Even though we undertake many projects over the course of the year, it’s always exciting to see our sign boards around the city.
These projects are also a fantastic avenue for reaching potential new clients, inspiring them to get in touch with their ideas.
September – Team TINTO Annual Conference 3.0
For the third year in a row, we took our whole team off-site, allowing us time to reflect, realign and plan.
This year we went back to the Palm Court Hotel, where we succeeded in updating our values to more accurately reflect how we show up in the world 😊
October: Get involved in the clean-up for Our Union Street
As the city renaissance gathers momentum, it was time roll our sleeves up and do our bit by getting involved.
Our MD, Rich, took his whole family for the day to help with the Our Union Street clean-up. The group achieved in a few hours what would normally take the council months, showcasing the power of community-led initiatives.
November: finalise proposals for reimagining the Belmont Cinema
November saw the final submission of our proposals to the team behind the meaningful redevelopment of the Belmont Cinema. We are excited to watch this journey progress through 2024, giving something truly unique and community focused to the city.
December: The Wallace Tower, Seaton Park
And finally, December saw us signing contracts for the extension and redevelopment of the Wallace Tower, which is set to commence in January.
It's all systems go for our exciting project in extending the iconic Wallace tower located in Seaton Park.
This should start early in the new year, and we can't wait to update you all with the progress. Hopefully the café will invite its first visitors later in the summer of 2024.
Thank you to all of our hard-working team and wonderful clients for making 2023 a truly great year for TINTO.
We hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
