Project Insights: Transforming a Family Home in Banchory

Simon and Elizabeth had been living in a dated house in a location they adored, and came to us with plans to transform it into their dream family home.

They wanted to upgrade the overall layout of their house to create more modern, bright, open plan area for their whole family to enjoy. Also, they wanted to retain some original features that they felt made it their home, so there was plenty of work to be done to create their ideal space.

Simon and Elizabeth approached team TINTO, and we were able to take these plans and make them reality. We caught up with our clients to find out how they enjoyed the process and how it transformed their home!

What ideas did you have in mind when you came to TINTO?

"We knew when we bought the house that we wanted to make some changes. We loved the location and some of the original features of the property, however we knew we wanted a more open-plan layout to accommodate and suit our family lifestyle."

"We were weighing up our options in regard to knocking through various walls to open up what was already there, versus knocking down the existing extensions and starting over."

What did you hope the outcome of the project would be?

"The kitchen is important to us as we both cook, but our original kitchen was small and completely cut off from the rest of the house. We really wanted it to be the heart of the home."

"We also wanted to add and extra room for the kids, a playroom or TV room. An extra bedroom was also something we wanted to add, and it has turned out be to a very handy home office."

How did you find working with team TINTO?

"Ross was really helpful, keeping things moving forward and guiding us about what we needed to be thinking about next."

"Nina quickly tuned in to what we liked, and what was important to us kitchen wise. She was also very tolerant of some last-minute changes to our order!"

What did you enjoy most about the process?

"It was great to be able to see our ideas become reality over time! We were really pleased with the way the main contractor and architect worked collaboratively during the course of the build. The contractor was recommended by TINTO and we were really happy with choice."

How has the work changed the way you use the space?

"As predicted, the kitchen is the heart of the home, and now we can be cooking or cleaning-up without missing out on everything else. The big windows to the front allow us to enjoy the garden from the cosy comfort of inside."

"We were worried we had changed so much it would feel like a different house, but we have kept enough of the old house for it to still feel like the home we have lived in."
